Parent Stay and Plays

In our Ladybrook Nursery and Reception Classes we love to have our families involved in our learning. Each half term we invite parents in to stay, play and learn with us. The children show great pride in modelling to their parents what we do in the EYFS at Ladybrook; they love being the teachers! We are incredibly grateful for our supportive families and value their participation in working alongside us in partnership.

Autumn 1

In Nursery this half term we have been focusing on settling in, getting to know one another and exploring our environment. It has been lovely to spend time chatting to each child and their parents to find out all about their unique interests and strengths. We then adapted our setting to suit the growing needs of each child. Miss Singleton and I have been so pleased to see how happily the children have come into nursery and how well they have already settled in to the routines of the day. We have encouraged independence by modelling to the children high expectations around the room and praising their efforts. They have all had a go at pouring their own drinks, putting on their own coats and washing their hands.

Skylark Forest School Trip

In November we went to Lyme Park to visit their forest school. The children were able to initiate their own learning in an outdoor natural environment with resources that had been carefully curated. We had a wonderful time learning how to use tools and outdoor equipment safely while also fostering independence and risk taking. The forest school leaders even commented on how amazing our nursery children were.

Nursery Autumn 2

This half term we have been learning to retell stories and join in with repeated phrases. It has been amazing to engage the children in stories and role play that support their love of learning and books. Children have also enjoyed taking their own library books home and sharing them with their parents. All children have taken part in a variety of adult-led and child-initiated activities that help develop their core body strength. The writing area has been very popular so we have made this space bigger to meet the current interests of the children. The children have started to make friendships with one another and share and take turns with the resources. We enjoyed sharing our christmas songs with our parents who were very proud!

Spring 1

This half term began with a mystery that we needed to solve; a gingerbread man had jumped out of the oven and ran away. The nursery children became detectives and enjoyed looking for clues. We then baked our own gingerbread men and decorated them carefully, counting out their buttons. We also read a story called, 'Harry's Home and looked at different types of homes. We enjoyed walking around the school grounds looking at the houses in our local area.

Spring 2

We began this half term by discovering enormous footprints in our nursery classroom. We decided that they must belong to something very large; this created a lot of excitement in the room and the children wanted to find out who they belonged to. We have also been incorporating lots of technology into our learning this half term; we have had a go at programming a variety of floor robots, which has enhanced our problem solving skills. In the last week we got ready for spring and Easter; it has been lovely to have some sunny days in our outdoor learning space.

Dinosaur Workshop

As part of our Dinosaur topic, we had a dinosaur expert come and visit us in school. We were able to dig for dinosaur fossils and we even met a baby t-rex. We found out so much about different types of dinosaurs.
