To celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week 2026, Place2Be shared an activity to explore this year’s theme
This is My Place.
Belonging is the feeling of being a valued part of the groups and places that are important to us. It means feeling cared for and comfortable to be ourselves. This activity encouraged year 1 to explore their sense of belonging by creating a personal map of places or activities where they feel they belong.
For our DT topic this term Year 1 have been working on mechanisms particularly levers and sliders. We made some simple levers and sliders then the children designed their own moving Christmas card. Her are their designs.
Year 1 had fun exploring our play pod equipment, learning how to play with the scrap to create imaginative games and scenarios. The children worked together to build, act and play with the objects provided in the play pod. Usually this is only available at lunchtime but year 1 had an extra session by themselves so they could explore.
Year 1 have been creating poppies for remembrance using pom poms, buttons, beads and pipe cleaners. We talked about why the poppy is the symbol of remembrance day.
Over the year we are going to learn about each of the seasons. This half term we focused on Autumn and completed a range of activities linked to Autumn. We sorted season pictures, wrote some Autumn leaf poems, went on an Autumn walk and looked for all of the signs of Autumn we could see. We also completed some Halloween and Bonfire night themed activities.
In Science also talked about why we are starting to notice the sky becoming darker earlier than usual.
Here is a selection of out Autumn themed learning.
Year 1 have settled into their new classroom well. We have been busy learning our new routine and navigating around the main school. Our topic this term is all about nurturing nurses with a focus on Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Below is a selection of our provision activities from the first few weeks of term. New photos will be added each month so you can see what else we have been up to.
