Virtual Learning Week 13 (13.7.20)

Week beginning Monday 13th July

Good morning everyone!

We hope you had a good week last week - it was nice to see a bit of sunshine again!

This week is the penultimate week of Year 5 (use your dictionary to see if you can find out what that means!) and, as usual, your work is listed below.

Make sure that you look out for the ‘Sports Day’ section in Classwork on Wednesday - we hope that you will all have a go and see if you can beat the teachers!!

Have a great week,

Love Mrs Draper and Mrs Gadd smiley

Learning Tasks Week beginning 13th July 2020

Watch the video and do the quiz, quiz plus and the activity.

Maths:  Maths booklet – Multiplication and Division

You can find your maths booklet in Google Classroom. This week we are starting a new booklet - please choose the level suitable for you from bronze, silver and gold. We will NOT be completing the book this week (we want to be half way through it by the end of the week) so would like you to pace yourself so that you do some of your booklet each day.  To keep your tables going, you could also go on TTRockstars, print off a times table square or a game to complete (these are in Google Classroom too). You should spend 30 – 40 minutes on maths each day.

Topic: Geography

Well done for doing such great research on the USA –your projects are developing brilliantly! This week we are moving onto the third area of our project and you are going to be researching the Caribbean, focusing on Jamaica. We would like you to spend around 40-50 minutes each day carrying out your own research on the Caribbean. We would like you to do most of your research on Jamaica. This week is all about finding things out and making notes. REMEMBER! YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRESENT ANYTHING THIS WEEK - just gather the information as notes in your book!

Once again, think carefully when you do your research and don’t just copy things off the internet – you need to understand what you’re finding out and write the facts in your own words where possible. Remember that you need to check facts on more than one website to make sure that they are accurate.

Before you start, look again at the continent of North America on a map. See if you can find the Caribbean. Have a look at the different islands on a map – how many have you heard of?  Don’t forget that if you haven’t got an atlas, there are some maps on Google Classroom for you to use. Once you know where the Caribbean is, find Jamaica. You should then find out as much as you can about what Jamaica is like as place and as a place to live eg:

capital

flag

currency

language

size

population

climate

land eg: mountain ranges, lakes, rivers, seas, landmarks, plants, wildlife etc

culture eg: food, religions, life styles, jobs, houses, sports

Here are some websites to get you started:

https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/countries/jamaica/

https://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/countries/jamaica.html

Jamaican food

We are sure that you can find other useful information, too!
