Week 14 Virtual Learning 20.07.20

Good morning Year 2. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed seeing the sun yesterday. I had a lovely weekend starting with Leeds being promoted on Friday, having my hair done on Saturday and then my birthday yesterday.

You have made it to the last week of home learning! As we now are now so close to the end of the year, I haven't set you as many tasks this week.

Don't forget to complete the one page profile. This link is in Google Classroom.

Have a fabulous week

love

Mrs Morrison

Monday 20th July

Time to think: Think about your year in Year 2...what are you proudest of?

Literacy

This week I would like you to write to yourself. Do you remember we did something similar in September? I have still got them so I will pass them to Miss Foley for you to read in Year 3.

This letter is going to be different and it is for a very important person. You. I would like you to write about the past few months. Over the past 5 months life in Britain has changed. Think about what happened, why schools had to close, why we went into lock down and could no longer visit our family and friends, how you felt, what you did at home, how you learnt and how things are slowly getting back to normal. This seems quite a lot so we are going to build it up gradually so by the end of the week you have lots of ideas for your letter. Your letter will remain private for you. Just like Samuel Pepys’ diary, it will tell the reader what life has been like. You can choose when to open it. Perhaps at the end of the year or even at the end of Year 6. Perhaps you’ll keep it sealed for even longer. It’s up to you.

What we have all experienced is very unusual and will be talked about for years to come. We will all remember it in different ways and will have different memories. I hope you enjoy this task. When I was at school I wrote what I thought would be doing aged 20, 30, 40, 50 etc. Most of it did happen - but when I was 11, I did think I was going to work in a bank! I have kept it all these years and when I occasionally stumble across it, it makes me smile.

So today’s task is to write down some ideas. You may need to talk to a grown up about some of it.

Please practise list 35 spellings today. I have attached different worksheets for each stage similar to the ones we used to put in your yellow spelling book. These are below and also in Google Classroom. This is your last list of the year!

Maths

In maths this week I have set you some fun challenges for you to complete. They will include lots of different maths areas we have looked at over the year.

Like last week, you have the option of bronze, silver and gold tasks. Remember, you only have to select one to do, not all three.

Bronze page 16-17 of the bronze booklet

Silver page 25-26 of the silver maths booklet

Gold page 42/44 of the gold maths booklet

Topic- Art project

Over the week I would like you to work on a 3D rainforest art project. You can use whatever materials you like to create a piece of art linked to the rainforest. I have attached some ideas below but I know you’ll have fantastic ones of your own too.

Don’t forget to plan your ideas first and make sure you have got the materials you need to make it. Enjoy!

Escape the Wildlife Park.

I have also attached a challenge that you can complete any day this week or save it for another time. This links to our science topic and is like an Escape Room. You need to solve the clues to escape the room! Why not get all the family involved?

Friday 24th July

Time to think: Do something you enjoy today.

Literacy; ‘The future’ - For your next paragraph how do you think things will change over the next few months? In September what will it feel like coming back to school. How do you feel about it? Do you have any worries?

Your last paragraph will be what you learned during lock down and what you hope for the future.

When you have completed your letter. Put it in an envelope, seal it and remember where you put it so when you decide you want to read it, you can find it.

If we were in school today we would be watching a film and spending time sharing stories, games, sweets and good wishes. If you would like to share a message on the stream - either a video or write one, you are welcome to.

So today’s task includes:

Watching your favourite film

Eating something yummy

Speaking to a friend

Sharing a message on the stream

I am so proud of you all and how much progress you have made this year. One of the reasons I love teaching Year 2 is seeing the progress you make from the end of Year 1 to the end of Year 2. I watch you grow, learn, develop your own ideas, become more independent, form new friendships and strengthen existing ones. You will all be amazing in juniors. You will be a class I never forget. You will be the class I talk about in years to come. I have loved teaching you and was so upset when our time together was cut short. I will treasure the messages you and your parents have sent me. Keep smiling and keep reaching for your dreams.

Normally we would send you home with a gift from all of us. We are unable to do this this year. Instead we have bought you a class present to enjoy in Year 3. I will share it with you when it arrives!
