Week 11 Virtual Learning (29.6.20)

Week beginning 29th June 2020

Welcome to week 4 of the half term and week 11 of home learning!  Thank you to those of you who filled in last week's questionnaires.  It was also lovely to see some uploaded topic work in Google Classroom last week as well as some impressive photographs of your invertebrate homes. Don't worry if you haven't had time yet to make or finish your home- try to do it this week.

Have a lovely sunny week.

Love, Mrs Poole and Mrs King

Learning Tasks

Monday 29th June 2020

Reading- 20-30 minutes to yourself then summarise the key points in your blue book about the section you read today. Use this as a chance to practise interesting vocabulary, sentence structure and punctuation - transfer those skills!  Be clear. Ask an adult to check it and make sure they understand what has happened from your description.

Grammar/punctuation: Apostrophes for possession revision.  Watch the Espresso video then have a go at the quizzes and activity.

Maths: Maths booklets- Multiplication and Division

This week we are starting new booklets and you can find them in Google Classroom.  Please note that if you chose the bronze booklet last time you have already revised multiplication and division so the new bronze booklet is called Numbers and revises numbers to 100 and numbers to 1000, place value, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, and fractions.

Whichever booklet you choose please pace yourself to complete some each day so that by the end of the week you are half way through.  You should aim to spend 30-40 minutes each day on maths so you could also go on TT Rock Stars, print off a times table speed sheet to complete (from Google Classroom) or play some times tables games (also posted in Google Classroom).

**Remember, if you are someone who spends part of the week in school and part of the week learning at home please make sure you know where you are up to in your booklet when you arrive at school and when you leave.**

Topic: Like last week, in Google Classroom find the file called ‘ongoing topic work- summer 2’.  From the grid choose one or two new activities to complete this week.  Please note, the deadline for completing all chosen topic tasks from the grid is Friday 10th July.

**Remember, if you are someone who spends part of the week in school and part of the week learning at home please choose one activity to work on at school and a separate activity to work on at home because unfortunately you are not able to take work back and forth at the moment.  Please discuss with the adult in Lions which activity you should choose to work on at school this week.  They may help you to adapt the task slightly so that it can be completed in school.**

Reading: 20-30 minutes to yourself then clarify 5 unknown words- use a dictionary.  Write the word definitions in your book then write your own sentences to show you understand how to use the words.  Ask an adult to check your sentences.

E.g: Inquisitive: adjective: having or showing an interest in learning things; curious.

The children were inquisitive about why the River Nile was so important to people during ancient Egyptian times.

Grammar/punctuation: Revisit Monday’s apostrophes revision task and have another go.  If you feel ready for more of a challenge, watch this video then have a go at the activity and quiz.
