This term Year 1's had a special visitor who took them on a journey to see what life was like for Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. This was part of our history looking at significant people and how changes were made then that still have an impact on today.
In Literacy we looked at the story of Handa's Surprise, year 1 learned the story then had a go at making some changes to write their own stories. In computing they also had a go at drawing some pictures to go with their stories. Here are some of our drawings.
This term our topic has been explorers. We have learned about Ibn Battuta, Neil Armstrong, Sunita Williams, Amelia Earhart and Matthew Henson. Year 1 really enjoyed finding out about how these explorers went on their amazing adventures and what life would have been like for each of them.
Year 1 were lucky enough to have a special visitor this week, author and Illustrator Sean Perkins. He told Year 1 all about his 'Silly Pie' then taught them a song to accompany the poem. Year 1 then had a go at writing their own 'Silly Pie' recipes. Sean also told us about his books and read one of his stories to the class.
