Year 5 2020-2021

Welcome to our Year 5 page

Parents/carers - you should be so proud of how well your children have done this year!  It has been such a strange year but they have been resilient, enthusiastic and determined to learn and enjoy their time in year 5!  It is such a shame that you can't come into school to see our classroom and the children's fantastic work.  Please have a look at the photos below but also follow the link to see some videos that we have uploaded to share some of our Summer term learning.

Sports Day!
Year 5 had a brilliant time and were so sensible and helpful.  We were really proud of their resilience, determination and 'sportspersonship'!

There are a lot of photos for families to look at - we didn't want you to feel that you had missed out too much!

Celebration week - 1980s

We have been looking at the work of the artist Keith Haring who was very popular in the 1980s.

We have created our own Haring inspired art work!

Summer Term

This term our topic is 'My Place in Space'

We have had fun exploring our solar system!  We used fruit and loo roll to help us to make a scale model of the solar system!  We were amazed by the distances between the planets!

Astronaut Training Academy!

We started off our new Space topic with an exciting training day!  We found out what it takes to be an astronaut - it was tougher than we thought!  Have a look at some of our training!

We are all so happy to be back together in school.

Here are some photos of World Book Day!

Thank you for dressing up - you looked amazing and we had a great day!

Home Learning week 1

We have all worked so hard this week.  Here is just a small sample of the work we have done at home.

(Look in the word document too for photos!)

Week 1 home learning

We enjoyed dressing up for our Year 5 WW2 day at the end of the term!  We had fun making WW2 Christmas decorations and cards and doing WW2 based art.
Here are some photos of us making poppies and creating our own topic book covers.
We had great fun doing the Santa Dash in our Christmas jumpers!  Well done, everyone!  You did a great job and will have raised lots of money!
As part of our WW2 topic, in science we have been investigating materials that would be good to use to blackout our windows.
Superhero time!  We had great fun dressing up as superheroes and experiencing a superhero visit!  We have raised lots of money for the foodbanks and have donated lots of food from home.  Thank you so much to parents (and children) for their extremely kind donations and for taking part in such a fun event.
We have had a busy week in Year 5!  We have been writing and editing our instructions about what to do in a WW2 air raid!  We have also had a big focus recently on being a good friend and about using kind words.  We read the book "Words and your heart" by Kate Jane Neal and considered the power of words!  We are going to think about how our words can affect others and we all wrote positive words to describe each other in our activity.  Have a look at the photos...we had a great time!
