Week 7 Virtual Learning (18.5.20)

Friday 22nd May 2020

Happy Friday Year 4!  You  have made it to the end of week 7 of home learning and the end of the half term too!  Well done, I am very proud of you all!  The new videos and photo posted yesterday were fantastic.  A few of you still haven't posted.  If you would like to please do so today.  There is also a message about the mummified tomatoes in the class stream.  Please read it and and leave a comment if you would like to.

As it is Friday, and the end of half term,  I would like you to try to make sure all maths, literacy and topic tasks set this week are complete and 'handed in.'

I would also like you to ask a grown up or older sibling to test you on the last set of spellings (list 27).  Do this in your spelling book as normal.

Your new spelling list is as follows:

List 28- word families (words with similar spellings, root words and meanings)

1. phone

2. telephone

3. phonics

4. microphone

5. phonograph

6. sign

7. signature

8. assign

9. designer

10.  signaller

Copy the new spellings carefully into your spelling book.  Check the meaning of any words you are unsure of and write each word neatly into a sentence in your blue books. Use the following title- List 28 spelling practice.  Keep practising your spellings so that you will be ready for the spelling test after the holidays.

When all of the above is finished I would like you to visit Maths Frame Multiplication Tables Check:

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check

Remember there are 25 times tables questions and you have 6 seconds to answer each question.  Play several times and see if you can beat or maintain your best score from last week.  If you find it really tricky remember you can adjust the difficulty by giving yourself slightly longer to answer the questions or by only including certain tables in the test.  Good luck!  If there are any times tables you find really tricky these are the ones you should be practising frequently please.

If you would like more to do please choose from the following:

  • Times table practice on Times Tables Rock Stars

https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student

  • Maths on the Move home challenge sheet

https://www.aspire-sports.co.uk/sites/default/files/content/MATHS%20ON%20THE%20MOVE%20HOME%20CHALLENGE%20SHEET%203and4.pdf

  • I See Home Learning videos- choose a video to watch then click on the task beneath and have a go

http://www.iseemaths.com/lessons34/

  • Play one of last week's times tables games.
  • Make a reading den and enjoy some time reading.

And of course please don't forget to fill in this week's questionnaire (week 7) found in Google Classroom.  I will be checking responses throughout the day.

I hope you all have a lovely school holiday and enjoy time with your families.  I will be in touch again on Wednesday 10th June.

Love, Mrs Poole

Thursday 21st May 2020

Hi Year 4, I hope you enjoyed the beautiful sunshine yesterday!  It was lovely to see two more videos posted in the stream.  They really made me smile, thank you!  I also loved reading your responses to what you are looking forward to in the school holidays.

Now for today's tasks...

Maths- On Tuesday you had a go at some multiplication and division problems.  Today I would like you to have a go at some addition and subtraction problems.  Please see Google Classroom for details.

Literacy- Remember, this week's Literacy is posted in Google Classroom and is about non-chronological reports.  There are 4 tasks.  As a guide I suggested completing task 1 and 2 on Tuesday, task 3 on Wednesday and using today and tomorrow to complete task 4.  Have a look at wherever you got up to yesterday and carry on today.  Please take your time and complete each task carefully and to the same high standard that I expect in school.

**I know a few of you have already finished this so today I would like you to either produce a best draft- typed or written OR spend thirty minutes reading and then follow our group reading structure of summarising in your own words, choosing five words to clarify, predicting what might happen next and then asking an adult to ask you some questions.

Topic- This week's topic work has been online in Google Classroom since Monday morning.  Remember you have all week to work your way through topic tasks.  This week's topic work includes the last of the BBC Bitesize Ancient Egypt learner guides, more detailed research on Egyptian gods and goddesses, some book art, map work and revisiting your mummified tomato!  Once people have had a chance to look at their tomatoes I will explain exactly what should have happened and why later in the week.  Please take your time over your topic work and try to upload your finished work if you can.

Have a great day everyone.

Love, Mrs Poole

Wednesday 20th May 2020

Good morning Year 4!  I hope you are all able to get outside and enjoy the lovely sunshine at some point today.  Before you do anything today though please read the important message in the class stream and leave me a comment to show that you have read it.

Thank you for all your hard work yesterday.  I saw lots of great work uploaded and received lots of messages about the tasks.  It was lovely to see some more photos and videos of you saying hello too.  Don't forget that you have until Friday if you have not yet done yours.

Now for today's tasks...

Maths- Firstly, if you haven't yet finished yesterday's maths task please do that first.  Then, I would like you to go on Mathletics.  If you have outstanding tasks do those first then you may choose what tasks to do but please try to spend some time on the four rules- addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

If you would like to do more, don't forget the daily lessons on 'I See Maths' which I have been posting links to for the last two Fridays.

Literacy- This week's Literacy is posted in Google Classroom and is about non-chronological reports.  There are 4 tasks and you have all week to work your way through them.  As a guide I suggested completing task 1 and 2 on Tuesday, task 3 today and using Thursday and Friday to complete task 4.  Have a look at wherever you got up to yesterday and carry on today.  Please take your time and complete each task carefully and to the same high standard that I expect in school.

Have a great day.

Tuesday 19th May 2020

I hope you all had a good start to the week yesterday.  Hopefully you watched our staff video with our message to you all.  As you know, we opened up the class stream yesterday to allow you all to post a photo or video too.  Thank you to everyone who has posted one so far- Mrs King and I have loved watching them!  The stream will remain open until the end of the week so if you haven't posted a message yet and would like to, there is still plenty of time.

Now for the day's tasks...

Maths- Last week we focussed on learning and recalling times tables and corresponding division facts.  Today I would like you to have a go at some activities to practise problem solving with multiplication and division.  In Google Classroom you will find a link to a BBC Bitesize video.  Watch the video and then have a go at activity 1 (silver) or 2 (gold).  Please note that the answers are included on activity 2- don't be tempted to have a look until you have finished!  The answers for activity 3 are linked separately.  If anyone finds activity 1/silver too tricky please find other ways to practise your tables- last week's maths games, Maths Frame Tables Check, Rock Stars etc.  I would like you to have a go at the silver activity first though please.  When you have finished you should all have a go at activity 3 (quiz with wise owl).

Literacy- This week's Literacy is posted in Google Classroom and is about non-chronological reports.  There are 4 tasks and you have all week to work your way through them.  As a guide I would suggest completing task 1 and 2 today, task 3 on Wednesday and using Thursday and Friday to complete task 4.  Please take your time and complete each task carefully and to the same high standard that I expect in school.

Topic- This week's topic work has been online in Google Classroom since yesterday morning.

Have a great day.
