Week 4 Virtual Learning Week beginning 27.04.2020

Friday 1st May

A small thought...

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory. (Dr Seuss)

I can't believe that we are already starting the month of May. Hopefully summer is on its way, although the hailstones and rain that fell outside my house last night suggest something else!  I'm quite pleased that today is Friday - I think that everyone - children, parents, carers and teachers have worked really hard this week. We all deserve a bit of a rest this weekend and will get one, fingers crossed, just a little one.

Today's learning

We have put a daily check-in for you all on the stream and remember you also have your weekly check-in to complete. Thank you to all of you for sharing your thoughts with us. We do need more than 'yes' or 'no' for answers - your feedback and questions are really important. We need to hear your voices on paper because we can't hear them in our classroom at the moment.

Maths

Keep on with the Mathletics today.  Keep trying your hardest because next week we will be leaving Mathletics and moving on to some different maths.

French

You have some activities on Expresso to practise and revise telling the time.  The links and instructions are in Google Classroom.

Enrichment

I have found an orienteering activity for you to complete. Read the instructions carefully in Google Classroom. If this isn't for you, try one of the codes breaking activities from last week.

Remember your Art and French need to be handed in today. I've had a sneaky peak at some work handed in already - it looks absolutely amazing!!  We really look forward to seeing what you have all done!

Take care, stay save and be kind.

Best wishes

Mrs R

Thursday 30th April

Here's a thought for today.

Don't limit your challenges. Challenge your limits.

Well, I have a few times this week. I tried a level 2 to 3 Pilates class on line and I certainly challenged my limits.  I also went on a walk which involved a steep uphill part ... again my limits were well and truly challenged!  The weather wasn't as sunny yesterday but I know all the plants in my garden really appreciated the rain. I'm in school today so I'm going to see how all our plants are growing in our garden. I will check throughout the day to see you how you are all getting on - hopefully you are all growing your minds with marvellous thoughts and ideas and learning!

Today's learning

Your daily check-in is on today's stream. so do this first.  We look forward to seeing your thoughts every day.  Then there are a couple of activities in Classroom.

Maths

Please continue with your Mathletics.

Literacy

This week is all about prepositional phrases.   All the information and instructions you need are in Classroom.  We look forward to seeing your fandabbydosey sentences! PS Don't use that word in your writing! :D

PSHE and PE

These two subjects are combined this week. Please feel free to try out as many of the activities as you can.  Just make sure that you have a really good workout! Just follow the links in the activity in Classroom.

We both enjoy seeing all the tasks that you complete.  Remember to try and upload your work on parts of the body in French using Mrs W's instructions to photograph your work and put it on our stream.  Some of you have sent photos already.  The vocabulary that is being used is fantastic.  You can draw on extra bits like the hair on the head, the eyes, nose, mouth etc if your want to!

Art :

Hi Mrs W here invading Mrs R's space - how cheeky! Please could you upload your art for us to see. the instructions you need fr uploading are in Google Classroom - you are not uploading to the stream today so they are very, very slightly different instructions

to last week's instructions. Your work will come straight to us and we will put it all together to show you next week! I can't wait to see your artwork!

Hope you all have a good day!

Best wishes

Mrs R

Wednesday 29.04.2020

Good morning! I hope that you are well?

Yesterday, I was impressed with your check-in sentences ... I can't wait to read your writing now. In school, the sunflower seeds I planted are starting to shoot up so they welcomed the rain yesterday to have a big drink after all of that sunshine. Perhaps you could do some gardening at home or try to grow something yourselves as Mrs Presswood suggested in her newsletter?

Today's Learning

Daily Check-in can be found on the stream on Google Classroom (when you've read about the rest of today's learning!) We nearly had a full class yesterday - please make sure you do it so I know you are safe and well. If you didn't do the check in I sent you a reminder on the stream!

Exercise - I'm working at home today so I am going to find some time to walk Spike - Sam has taken him for the last couple of days so it will be nice to get a walk in the fresh air. What are you going to do today?  Perhaps, revisit Joe Wicks today?

Here is the link for today's lesson!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLxPLLr1oPk

Maths - How did you do yesterday with the problem solving? The answers are in Google Classroom so you can check your work!

Today's maths is back to Mathletics - did you read my comments in the stream about the technician's trying to sort out the problems some of you were having? If you didn't please read them  - there is some good advice from them. FIngers crossed everything works today!.

Art - How did your art go yesterday? I saw a couple of pieces yesterday and they look awesome! Today we will be focusing on a tricky thing to draw .... noses!

I suggest that you watch it all the way through first WITHOUT drawing anything. Then, watch it again, pausing it when you need to and drawing as you go along. Use a 2B pencil if you have one, if not HB is fine. Press lightly! We will be sharing photographs later in the week.

Literacy

A few little things for literacy today:

1. I hope you managed to write a successful paragraph 2 yesterday - those showing sentences can be a bit tricky! We will continue with our stories next week - please re-read your two paragraphs today and make sure you are really happy with them. Look at them with fresh eyes - do you need to improve anything? Have you got a range of punctuation and sentence types?

2. Ask your grown up to test you on your last spelling list ( the one from week 3) and copy your new spellings neatly and accurately into your blue book - make sure you copy correctly - you don't want to learn them incorrectly! Practise during the week - I wont be reminding you, this is something you should just be doing regularly.

3. Take some time to do some reading and if a grown up is free to do so, please ask them to discuss it with you.

Mrs Regan will be taking over tomorrow, but I will be asking you to do something tomorrow so watch out for me sneaking into her message!

Have a creative and artistic day! See if you can do something kind for someone today.

Tuesday 28th April 2020

Well after the less than promising forecast, yesterday was actually quite lovely weather - I hope you got outside and enjoyed some fresh air. I monitored our Google Classroom yesterday but only had a few questions so I guess you are getting used to things ... and I am hoping  I am getting better at putting things on that work! Fingers crossed!

I made an apple pie yesterday! I do lots of cooking and baking but not usually pastry - it tasted great but I think Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood would have been quite insulting about its appearance if I was on the Bake Off! I will keep practising.

Today's Learning

Daily Check-in can be found on the stream on Google Classroom (when you've read about the rest of today's learning!) We nearly had a full class yesterday - please make sure you do it so I know you are safe and well.

Exercise - I'm in work today so I will be doing Joe Wicks or Gymnastics with the children and then my yoga tonight to chill out. What are you going to do today?  Perhaps, some gymnastics in your own gardens or what about the combat blast on imoves? This high energy combat routine will get your heart pumping and your brain more switched on and ready to learn. Put all you can into this 7-minute routine – you’ll feel energized and motivated by the end. I've done it and it's fun!

Maths - We are going to do some reasoning and problemsolving today! If you have a printer, you can print the sheets off but you don't really need to. You can read it on screen and use trial and improvement and calculations in your blue book. I'll post the answers tomorrow!! Pop over to Google Classroom to find the bronze, silver, gold, platinum challenges.

Art - How did your art go yesterday? I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work later in the week / next week! Today we are learning to draw mouths!

I suggest that you watch it all the way through first WITHOUT drawing anything. Then, watch it again, pausing it when you need to and drawing as you go along. Use a 2B pencil if you have one, if not HB is fine. Press lightly! We will be sharing photographs later in the week.

Literacy

I hope you managed to write some amazing paragraphs yesterday! It is time for paragraph 2 today.  I have put another  PowerPoint in Google Classroom that is going to take you through today's task in a step by step way! But just in case some of you can't open it in Google Classroom, there is a copy at the end of this message underneath my name.

Just before I go, on our ordinary class page - where we share our learning all year with parents -  I have put a slide show of your teeth fact-sheets. Please take a look at them; you may want to show your parents so they can admire all of your hardwork!

Have a lovely day!

Literacy PowerPoint (2)

Monday 27th April 2020

Good morning, good morning, good morning! I hope that you all had a lovely weekend. The weather was so hot on Saturday wasn't it; a bit cooler yesterday, though.

Weekly Check-in Feedback

We are heading into home learning week 4 - I can't believe we are there already - and I am missing you so much! I had a little look at our Christmas play photographs on the webpage at the weekend and they made me smile. I imagine we are all finding our own routines at home now - some of you may work in the morning, others in the afternoon. Some of you may spread it out during the day; some of you may have your own devices and some of you may have to share.  I think you have to do whatever works for you.

We noticed on the weekly check-ins that you are generally feeling fine - but some of you found it harder to get back into learning after the holidays. I hope that you find it easier this week. Some of you also said that you were more worried or fed up last week than you had been previously - we just wanted you to know that is okay - each day and each week will be different. It's important that you tell your grown ups when you feel like this - perhaps those are the times when some extra snuggles are needed - and you can be sure that even the grown ups - me and Mrs Regan included - have good days and not-so-good days. I find exercise helps me when I am having a not-so-good day - it gets those endorphins flowing and lots of positive energy. So, let's all look after each other, keep talking, keep busy and keep snuggling! We have put individual comments on your check-ins and sent them back to you - the instructions on how to see our comments are in the stream.

Today's Learning

Daily Check-in can be found on the stream on Google Classroom (when you've read about the rest of today's learning!)

Exercise - I'm going to do a Yoga class today before I start work - in fact when you read this I may have already done it! I did a barre class on Saturday and my leg muscles are a bit achy today so I need a stretch! What are you going to do? I would suggest Joe Wicks to beat those Monday morning blues or a strong hearts activity on IMoves:

https://imoves.com/the-imovement

Maths - Log on to Mathletics and see the tasks that I have set for you - some of you still have unfinished tasks - please catch up.

Art - We are going to be doing quite a bit of writing this week in Literacy so to balance it out, we are going to have an art focus on The Human Body instead of a science focus. We are going to be working with an art teacher called Jessica Hopper over the week. Each day she is going to teach you how to draw a different feature - today we will be drawing eyes. The link below is to a YouTube tutorial that I would have used with you in the classroom if we were in school - we would have paused and discussed quite a bit - but I think that it will still help you lots.

I suggest that you watch it all the way through first WITHOUT drawing anything. Then, watch it again, pausing it when you need to and drawing as you go along. Use a 2B pencil if you have one, if not HB is fine. Press lightly! We will be sharing photographs later in the week.

Literacy

Our literacy this week is short-story writing. We are going to base it on the film we watched last week, 'Alma'. However, we are not going to write it all at once - we are going to build it up carefully each day - we will be writing less each day but we will be writing better because this approach will give you time to really concentrate on language structures and vocabulary choices. I have put a PowerPoint in Google Classroom that is going to take you through today's task in a step by step way! But just in case some of you can't open it in Google Classroom, there is a copy at the end of this message.

Finally, I just wanted to say how fabulous your fact sheets about teeth were. I was very impressed by the effort that you have put into them and if we were in school I would have loved to have put them on the display for everyone else to see! I hope that you will make time to have a look at them on the stream - you probably won't have time to read everybody's so make sure you look at everybody's fact sheet in your Kagan team. Leave them a comment on their photgraph if you think they've done something particularly well.

Have a lovely day!
