Week 2 Virtual Learning 30.03.20

Friday 3rd April

After you have completed today’s tasks, it is officially the start of the holidays! Although I won’t be setting daily tasks, you can still keep your brains ticking over by using TTRS, Mathletics and reading daily. There are also the ideas that we sent home in your home learning packs.

I hope you had chance to watch the Antarctica journey. If you didn't, it is there for you to watch at another time.

It has been a very strange couple of week for all of us. I hope you are getting used to working from home. There is a quiz for you all to fill in on Google Classrooms. Please ask a grown up to help you answer the questions. I will read all your answers and will try to help you with any questions you have. The last question is for your mummies and daddies to ask me something.

Time to think: Write down 5 things you are grateful for and why.

Literacy

Like last Friday, I would like you to add to the recount you started last week. This can be written in the back of your book after last week’s work so it is in chronological order. Write about your week, what you have been up to, your daily tasks, exercise and anything else.

Maths

As it is Friday, it is number bond / times table day. Ask a grown up to test you on the ones you have been practising. Most of you have been practising multiplication facts on TTRS this week which is fantastic!

If you haven’t yet, remember to play the race track game with an older sibling or grown up.

Extra activity

This afternoon should have been your last orienteering session in Enrichment. I would like you to draw a map of part of your house and label it. It could be your bedroom, part of your house, your garden or even your street. Imagine you are standing above it looking down. Draw and label what you can see. Look at the examples to give you ideas.

And finally….

Have an amazing Easter and I hope you get lots of eggs! Have a lovely holiday – I know we can’t go anywhere but I’m sure you can still have lots of fun. The weather is meant to be getting warmer this weekend so we can get out in our gardens and enjoy the fresh air.

I’ll speak to you all on Monday 20th April

Take care

Love

Mrs Morrison

Thursday 2nd April

Thank you for replying to my message on Google Classrooms. I have enjoyed reading what you have all been up to. I have posted another check in for today.

Time to think: Enjoy washing your hands. Remember all they do for you!

Literacy:

Today I would like you to practise different types of sentences. There are four different ones: statement, command, question and exclamation. We will be focusing on these more after the Easter holidays. Today I would like you to watch the video on Espresso and in your home learning book, write 4 sentences - 1 of each type. In the video all the sentences are about cakes. I would like you to write sentences all about Easter eggs!

These are mine.

My Easter egg has been eaten by Mr Morrison.

Please can I have some of your Easter egg James?

What a mess you have made Anna!

Stop eating your egg because you won't eat your tea.

These are sentences I might actually say next week!

Maths:

Today I would like you to practise the multiplication facts you have been learning this week. I have added links to multiplication and division word problems. Either print them out or answer the questions in your books.

Don’t forget…

In your packs I have included some multiplication race track games – 2x, 5x and 10x. Some of you have 3x and 4x. Over the week I would like you to play these games with a grown up.

Other activities

Don't forget at 3pm today there is a live event by Marine Biologist Dr Huw Griffiths. He is going to take us on a journey to Antarctica. I hope you have chance to watch it. If you don't manage to watch it live, it will be available to watch on You Tube. The link is below - please note this has changed so click on today's link and not yesterday's!

Speak to you all tomorrow

Multiplication and division word problems.

Wednesday 1st April

Happy April Fool’s Day! Have you done any jokes on your family?!

Hopefully your mums and dads received the email about Google classroom. It was lovely to receive a few messages yesterday afternoon. I'll be checking them later today when I get home from school. I will leave the 'check in' on and see if we get any more comments and then change it on Thursday.

Time to think: It’s a new month – what will you do for the first time this month? I'm going to ask James to start teaching me how to play the cello. One thing I wish I could do is play an instrument and read music. Now could be the time to start learning!

Literacy:

Wednesday is handwriting day. Please use the oa o_e sheet today – toad and rode. Use the handwriting paper to practise these joins. Remember those tricky tall letters and descenders. Take care with the 'd' formation.

Don’t forget to read some of your book too!

Maths:

I checked TTRS and Mathletics throughout the day yesterday and was delighted to see so many of you had completed tasks! Well done everyone. Today’s focus is 10x tables. There are links to activities below.

Mathletics tasks are still available to support your learning.

If you want more of a challenge - I have added a link to some maths fractions work we did a couple of weeks ago. See what you can remember.

Don’t forget…

In your packs I have included some multiplication race track games – 2x, 5x and 10x. Some of you have 3x and 4x. Over the week I would like you to play these games with a grown up.

Other activities

Yesterday afternoon I made Easter cards with James and Anna. Today try and find time to make a card to send to someone special.

Advance notice.... On Thursday 2nd April an Antarctic marine biologist is going to take you on a journey to Antarctica. The link is below. I'm going to tune in, hope to see you there!

Tuesday 31st March

It’s the last day of the month and it snowed yesterday! Where has that lovely sunny weather gone? I hope it returns soon!

Miss Foley is setting up Google Classroom so we will be able to message each soon. I can’t wait to hear what you’ve been up to. Ask your mummy or daddy to look out for the email explaining all about it.

Today I have added a link to Cosmic Kids yoga – you can have fun with Pedro the Penguin.

Time to think: Find time to speak to a friend today.

Literacy:

As it is Tuesday I would like you complete a reading activity in your home learning folder. Please read ‘Anansi and the Turtle’ and answer the questions. There are some tricky words so use your phonics to help sound them out.

Maths:

How did your maths go yesterday? I have been checking TTRS regularly and can see that lots of you went on it. I hope you are enjoying the challenges. Today’s focus is 5x tables. There are links to activities below. I have also set tasks in Mathletics to support your learning. If you want more of a challenge, I have added links to ideas to challenge you.

Don’t forget…

In your packs I have included some multiplication race track games – 2x, 5x and 10x. Some of you have 3x and 4x. Over the week I would like you to play these games with a grown up.
