Virtual Learning Week 12 (6.7.20)

Week beginning Monday 6th July

Good morning everyone!

We can’t believe how fast the weeks are going – we are now on week 12 of home learning with not many more to go until the summer holiday! You’ve been doing a great job with your home learning – make sure that you keep it going, as all the skills we are practising will help you to be ready for Year 6. Also, don't forget to look in our 'Optional extras' section in Google Classroom if you'd like any other activities to do.

It was lovely to see some of you at the picnic this week – hope the rest of you are ready for your turn! Keep an eye on the Google Classroom stream for information about where it will be held.

Have a great week,

Love Mrs Draper and Mrs Gadd smiley

Learning Tasks Week beginning 6th July 2020

Monday 6th July 2020

Reading: 20-30 minutes to yourself – write a summary of what you have read in your school work book. Ask a parent to check it and make sure they understand what has happened from your description.

Grammar / Punctuation: Brackets BBC link: How to use brackets

Watch the video and complete the quiz, then look for the brackets worksheet in Google Classroom and complete both exercises.

Maths:  Maths booklet – Addition and Subtraction

You are going to continue with your maths booklet from last week. We will be completing the book this week so would like you to pace yourself so that you do some of your booklet each day. To keep your tables going, you should also go on TTRockstars, print off a times table square to complete or play some times tables games (these can be found in Google Classroom). You should spend 30 – 40 minutes on maths each day.

Topic: Geography

Your notes about the USA should now be ready for presenting! Think about your Canada work and try to present your USA notes in a way which links the two together.

Remember:

  • your facts should be beautifully presented in joined writing and any colouring should be neat - just like you would do if you were in school!
  • this is the second of three parts of research – have a think about how the other two parts can link up with what you do this week so that you have a complete project on North America rather than three separate ones.
  • make sure that you include lots of the facts that you have researched.
  • we would like you to use your imagination! You can make models, paint, colour, collage, attach pop-ups, attach flaps etc.
  • please do not do a PowerPoint presentation.
  • here are some ideas of ways in which you could present your work (you may well have a better, more creative one and, if so, please use your idea!):
  • a booklet with pop ups
  • a map with facts attached (pop ups, flaps with facts on etc)
  • a model of a landmark with facts attached
  • a large flag with facts attached.

We are sure that you already have lots of fantastic ideas! Again, please take a photo and hand your work in, via Google Classroom, at the end of the week for us to see. Remember that this is an activity for the week and you should be doing some each day.
