***** POWERPOINTS FROM MONDAY'S ACTIVITIES CAN BE FOUND HERE*****

Thursday 7th May 2020

Good morning Year 4.  Tomorrow is VE Day - or Victory in Europe Day. It marks the end of World War Two.  On 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end.  That is 75 years ago and the day will be marked with a Bank Holiday tomorrow.  You will learn more about this in Year 5 but if you are keen to know more now check out the links below...

Today I would like you to try to make sure all maths, literacy and topic tasks set in Google Classroom this week are complete and 'handed in.'

I would also like you to ask a grown up or older sibling to test you on the last set of spellings (list 25).  Do this in your spelling book as normal.

Your new spelling list is as follows:

List 26- the /s/ spelling spelt c before 'i' and 'e'

1. circle

2. century

3. centaur

4. circus

5. princess

6. voice

7. medicine

8. celebrate

9. celery

10.  pencil

Copy the new spellings carefully into your spelling book.  Check the meaning of any words you are unsure of and write each word neatly into a sentence in your blue books. Use the following title- List 26 spelling practice.  Keep practising your spellings so that you will be ready for next week's spelling test.

When all of the above is finished spend some time doing the following:

  • Times table practise on Times Tables Rock Stars

https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student

  • Maths on the Move home challenge sheet

https://www.aspire-sports.co.uk/sites/default/files/content/MATHS%20ON%20THE%20MOVE%20HOME%20CHALLENGE%20SHEET%203and4.pdf

  • I See Home Learning videos- choose a video to watch then click on the task beneath and have a go

http://www.iseemaths.com/lessons34/

  • Make a reading den and enjoy some time reading.

Don't forget to fill in this week's questionnaire (week 5) found in Google Classroom.  I will be checking responses throughout the day.

You may also wish to check out the link below.  Dr Campbell Price from Manchester Museum is providing an exciting live broadcast every Thursday at 3pm via Periscope.  He explores Egyptian artefacts from the museum and answers questions submitted to him throughout the week.    https://www.mminquarantine.com/egyptology-in-lockdown

Enjoy your long weekend and we will be back in touch next week.

Love, Mrs Poole

Wednesday 6th May 2020

Good morning Year 4!

In the class stream on Google Classroom you will find an explanation about how the PowerPoint presentations from Monday can be accessed within the Classroom without any other software.  This may come handy in the future.

I would also just like to say that I was impressed yesterday that many of you had a go at the ordering decimals grid challenge.  Some of you were a little confused as to how there could be multiple solutions.  In the class stream I have shared some of the fantastic work that was handed in yesterday and that shows different solutions to the problem.

Now for today's tasks...

Maths- Do have a look first at the solutions I have shared to yesterday's decimals grid challenge.  Perhaps you could come up with another solution yourself.

Then, I would like you to have a go at counting on and back in tenths and hundredths.  All details can be found in Google Classroom.

Literacy- I would like you to continue, and hopefully complete, the instructional writing task set yesterday.  A handful of you handed in this assignment yesterday but didn't upload any work.  It is fine not to upload your work but do check today that you used the WMG as a checklist and also that you have produced a best draft of your instructions too.

Topic- As you know topic work is posted in Google Classroom every Monday morning for you to complete at your own pace throughout the week.  This week you will find links to the next two Ancient Egypt learner guides on BBC Bitesize, a link to BBC Dance Mat touch typing practice and links to some French activities on Espresso.  I have also set you a challenge to practise some of the Design and Technology food preparation skills we practised earlier this year- spreading, peeling, grating, cutting (the bridge hold) and slicing (the claw grip).  The suggested activity (as it is easy to incorporate all of the skills mentioned) is sandwich making.  However, if you wish to be more adventurous and make something different, as long as it incorporates the skills, please feel free!

Try to spend some time practising your spellings today so that you are ready for tomorrow's test.

Have a great day and I will be in touch later on with those who hand in work on Google Classroom today.

Love, Mrs Poole

Tuesday 5th May 2020

Hi again Year 4! I hope everyone managed to complete Mrs King's activities yesterday once the technical issues were resolved.  If not please don't worry as the tasks are available to you all week.

Now for today's tasks...

Literacy- It has been so lovely to hear how much you enjoyed mummifying the tomatoes.  I know some of you who hadn't managed to do this activity last week have completed it over the weekend- well done.  Over the next two days I would like you to do some instructional writing on how to mummify a tomato.  More details of this activity can be found today in Google Classroom.  It is a two day task as I would like you to do a recap of What Makes a Good set of instructions first.  You will then do a first draft, edit it VERY carefully using the WMG checklist and finally you will produce a best draft to keep with your Ancient Egypt topic work.  To anyone who was unable to carry out the mummification activity please do not worry- you can choose another activity to write a set of instructions for.

Maths- Today's maths activity is based upon decimal numbers again, starting with a recap on ordering.  There is a decimal numbers grid challenge for those feeling confident.  All details can be found in Google Classroom.

Have a fabulous day and don't forget that you should also be reading, learning your spellings and practising your times tables.  Daily PE is important too- there are suggested activities listed here on our Year 4 page.

I look forward to checking in to our Google Classroom later today to see how everyone is getting on.

Love, Mrs Poole

Hello Year 4! From all the work you have uploaded I can see that you are all working really hard at home. Well done! I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for week 5 of home learning!

If you haven't seen the newsletter Mrs Presswood sent out over the weekend ask your parents to share it with you as she has written a letter to you.

If you haven’t managed to complete Friday’s questionnaire yet, please do as Mrs Poole and I would love to know how you are getting on.

Well done for working hard on your posters last week. If you sent in a photo I did respond to you so check back if you haven't read it.

This week we are starting to look at classification keys.

The activity is in Google Classroom.

Happy Monday!
