Week 14 Virtual Learning 20.7.20

Learning Tasks

Week beginning 20th July 2020

Please take some time this week to fill in your one page profile for your Year 5 teachers.  You will find these in Google Classroom and Mrs Woosnam has already emailed your grown ups asking them to look out for this task.  And don’t forget to have a go at 8 Beat the Staff challenges and record your results in Google Classroom by Wednesday please.  Good luck!

Monday 20th July 2020

Reading:

20-30 minutes to yourself then summarise the key points in your blue book about the section you read today. Use this as a chance to practise interesting vocabulary, sentence structure and punctuation - transfer those skills!  Be clear. Ask an adult to check it and make sure they understand what has happened from your description.

Literacy:

During home learning you all wrote a diary entry describing your experiences at the beginning of lockdown.  Since then you all wrote letters to me, explaining how you had been getting on at home as the weeks passed by.  I loved reading both pieces of work from you all.

This week I would like you to plan and write another letter but this time you are going to write to your future self!  I would like you to write about the past few months- what happened, why schools had to close, why we went into lockdown and what this meant, how you felt, what you did at home and how things are gradually getting back to normal now.

Begin by spending some time planning what you would like to include in your letter and how you will organise it.  When it comes to writing your letter, you may hand write or type it.  Check it and edit it very carefully.  If you hand write it you may need to copy your edited version out very carefully in your very best handwriting.  When your letter is finished, carefully put it in an envelope, seal it and put it somewhere VERY safe.  Remember where you put it so that whenever you decide you want to read it (next year, at the end of primary school, in ten years time…) you can find it!

Maths:

Please make sure that your Time booklets from last week are complete.  Answer booklets are posted in Google Classroom this week so when you have finished, please spend some time carefully checking your work.  If you chose bronze last week you may need to spend the rest of this week completing it as it was a longer booklet.  For anyone who has already finished their Time booklet, or who finishes it before the end of this week, there are problem solving activities posted in Google Classroom.  Please choose bronze, silver or gold and have a go.

Additional learning opportunities- optional but beneficial:

  • Mathletics
  • TT Rockstars
  • Times tables activity sheets posted in Google Classroom
  • Online times tables games posted in Google Classroom
  • Code.org
  • Dance Mat typing
  • Extra reading
  • Write a book review
  • Find somewhere quiet to sit and sketch what you can see

Tuesday 21st July 2020

20-30 minutes to yourself then clarify 5 unknown words- use a dictionary.  Write the word definitions in your book then write your own sentences to show you understand how to use the words.  Ask an adult to check your sentences.

Literacy:

Ongoing task- see Monday’s instructions.

Friday 24th July

Congratulations! You have made it to the end of home learning and the end of the school year!  Normally we would spend the last day of term watching a film and spending time sharing stories, games, treats and good wishes.  On a sunny day we would spend lots of time out on the school field.

So, today’s tasks are:

  • To watch a film.
  • To eat something yummy.
  • To speak to a friend.
  • To play outdoors.
  • To share a message on the class stream if you haven’t done so already this week.

And finally…

Thank you Year 4!  We have thoroughly enjoyed teaching you all this year.  We are so very proud of how you adapted to home learning and how those of you who have returned to school in keyworker bubbles have coped.  You have shown great resilience in what have been incredibly unusual circumstances.  You will certainly be a class that we never forget!

Have a safe and happy summer everyone and we look forward to seeing you back in school in September.

Love from Mrs Poole, Mrs King and Mrs Archer
