Week 9 Virtual Learning (15.6.20)

Monday 15th June

Good morning everyone! We know that some of you found it tricky at first last week to get used to working at home again after the half term break.  Hopefully this week you are raring to go! We do understand that having been away from school for so long now is difficult and it is frustrating for you not to be returning to school soon.  However, you only have six weeks of Year 4 left so it is really important that you keep working as hard as you can so that you will be ready for Year 5 in September.  Remember too that even though our class is not returning to school yet, both Mrs King and I are in school every week now with key worker bubbles.  With that in mind please go and get a grown up again and read through the following reminders of how virtual learning is now organised...

  • On a Monday, you have a welcome to the week message (like this!).

  • Your work for the week is uploaded all at once in a timetable.  You will find them in the subpages linked below.

  • Please try to stick to the timetable as much as possible.

  • You may feel that the work is repetitive over the week, that is because we are now focusing as much as possible on key skills that you need to master for next year - just like we would be doing if you were in school. So, if it says read for twenty minutes every day, you MUST do this. If it says TTRockstars for twenty minutes, you must do this. Don’t think that because there isn’t any writing, you can ignore it!

  • If there is no option to upload work and hand it in that means that we don't expect you to for that task.  Unfortunately we don't have as much time to feedback on your work now.  You will find that we start posting answer booklets at the end of the week for some of the maths tasks that we set.  We will allocate time on the weekly timetables for you to go through the answer booklets and check your work yourself at home.  If you have a piece of work you are really keen to share with us please upload it with your Friday questionnaire.  A few of you did that last week.

  • We do expect you to complete all tasks, but are only asking you to ‘hand in’ certain ones (see above). It is important that you hand these tasks in on time to save us the job of having to chase you for them but please don’t hand them in early - if we give you five days to do a job - it means it needs five days to do it properly - not one!

  • Remember, we are not able to answer lots of questions as quickly as we could before half term because we are now in school with groups of children from other year groups.  So if you do have a problem that you can’t solve yourself and that a parent can’t help with, you may have to be very patient.

  • We still love to hear from you via the weekly check-in questionnaires and always reply individually to those so do check for our messages to you.

  • Mrs Presswood and Mrs Woosnam are continuing to think carefully about how we can get our class together for some social time sessions - socially distanced of course - so you can all have a catch up and we can see you! They will be in touch soon!

Have a lovely week and keep smiling.

Love, Mrs Poole and Mrs King

Learning Tasks

Week beginning 15th June 2020

Monday 15th June 2020

Reading- Comprehension:  You will need your Espresso password- it is in your folder!  Ask a friend if you can’t find it- you all have the same one for Espresso.   Read the extract and answer the quiz questions.

https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/modules/e2_comprehension_lks2/books/book_dog_grk.html#tab1

Spellings: Continue to practise your spellings.  You should have written them in your literacy book last week (supermarket, superman, superstar, superhuman, antiseptic, anticlockwise, antisocial, autobiography, autograph, automatic).  You could try the look-say-cover-write-check approach, rainbow writing, fancy fonts, ABC (writing your spellings in alphabetical order) or writing silly sentences.

Maths: Spend 30-45 minutes on your addition and subtraction maths booklet.

You can find bronze, silver and gold maths booklet in Google Classroom.  If you do not have a printer write your answers in your blue books.

Topic: In Google Classroom you will find a file called ‘ongoing topic work- summer 2.’  It contains a grid with a variety of activities relating to our ongoing ancient Egypt topic. Each week I would like you to choose one or two activities to complete.  In Google Classroom you will find more information about this as well as useful links to webpages which may help you.  Have a look today and choose one or two activities you would like to complete this week.  Then make a start!
