Week 4 Virtual Learning

Friday 1st May

Happy Friday! How is it May already? I'm looking forard to seeing your topic work today. I have put an assignment on google classroom for you to upload your work to or you can upload it to the stream for your friends to see. I have also put some pictures on the stream of our classroom as some of you were saying you couldnt remember what it looked like. It's still there, just as we left it.

For any of you wanting extra activities, Scholastic are offering free home learning activities related to the Julia Donaldson books. BBC iplayer also have the short films for some of the books incase you dont have them. I will put both links on the Year 1 home page.

Today's tasks:

Literacy

I have put a read the picture activity on google classroom for you. You can answer the questions on the document or you can write the answers in your blue books. I will also put the document on here. Please hand in your work.

Phonics

Please go onto Espresso - English - Phonics - Ash's Phonics - Activities - Ay a-e. Please complete the activities.

Listen to the tricky word song on YouTube and write them down as the video plays. Parents this song will get stuck in your head!

Maths

I have put an activity on google classroom and I will pop it on here as well. You can print the sheet, take a photo and edit or write the answers in your blue book. You can hand in your work if you want to.

Other activities

Can you direct someone to find an object? Hide an object and get a member of your family to try and find it. Give them a starting point. Use directons such as take 2 steps forwards, take 4 steps backwards, turn to the right, turn to the left. Can they find your hidden object just by following your directions? Do this as many times as you like. Why don't you ask someone in your family to hide it and see if you can follow their directions.

Can you make a handprint sunflower?

Log onto code.org and complete the next level - the log in is in your file.

Have a lovely weekend

Speak to you all on Monday

Handprint sunflower

Thursday 30th April

Goooood morning you lovely lot. You did really well with your instructions yesterday! You really helped me out, thank you. I will be setting you a task next week for you to write your own set of instructions so all this practise will come in handy! I hope you are getting on ok with your parts of a plant task this week. I would like you to upload them to google classroom tomorrow (Friday) for me to have a look at. If you like you can share it on the stream so your class mates can see your fab work or you can just send it to me. It's up to you. I cant wait to see them.

Today's tasks:

Literacy

Please complete the handwriting sheet in your folder the joined up letters 'ch'. Practise in your blue book. The words at the side of the sheet have been cut off. These should say chick, chin, much. Parents if your child is finding the join too difficult please practise single letter formations. We have all started joining in school during handwriting practise.

Phonics

Sight word stomp/bean bag throw - please choose 10 of the year 1 common exception words (in your file) and write them in chalk outside or on pieces of paper. Please choose different ones to last week. When you say a word your child has to jump on that word or throw their ball, bean bag etc onto it. How many can they get right?

Maths

Listen to the super movers song below. It is very catchy. I would then like you to complete the metres or centimetres activity on espresso. Remember 1 metre is 100 centimetres. To make it easier you would measure larger items using metres. Once you have completed the activity I would like you to complete a task in your blue book. Split your page in half and write centimetres at the top of one side and metres at the top of the other side. I would then like you to make a list of objects that you find around your house that you would measure in centimetres and add it to the centimetres column and items that you would measure in metres and add it to the metres column. You could measure them too if you have a ruler and a tape measure. Don't forget to start from 0. Remember if something goes over 100cm it is then 1 metre and ..... cm if it is over 200cm it would be 2 metres and ...cm. I wonder how long your bed is? Have a go. What is the most peculiar thing you can measure?

Other activities

Please continue with your parts of a plant task. I'm looking forward to seeing those tomorrow.

The activities below are in case you would like other activities to do.

Choose a cosmic kids yoga activity to do on YouTube.

Have a go on numbots and practise your number bonds.

Can you remember how to count in 2s up to 30, 5s up to 50 and 10s up to 100? Can you count back in 10s from 100?

Gross motor activity - find a wall - how many arms pushes can you do in a minute?

There are also lots of printable sheets on Espresso, BBC Bitesize and Twinkl if you are looking for extras.

Don't forget....

Have a lovely day

Good morning Year 1. It was lovely seeing some of your pictures yesterday. I hope you enjoyed your activities. The weather seems to have gone down hill a bit. I hope you are still managing to get out in the garden and do your daily exercise. I have added a check in on google classroom today, go and have a look.

Today's tasks:

Can you help me? I've written some instructions but my computer has muddled them up! Can you put them in the right order?

You can print the sheet and number the instructions or you can screenshot it and write on the picture using edit.

Please then 'hand in' your work on google classroom like you did yesterday.

Phonics

Phonics three in a row - create a phonics board and ask an adult to add some phonics sounds. Choose a sound, if you read it correctly you get to put a counter on it or put a cross. Who will be the first person to get three in a row?

Please click on the link below to play the measuring game.

Other activities

Choose a just dance video off YouTube and see if you can copy the moves.

Muddled up instructions

Tuesday 28th April

Good morning, how did yesterday go? Did you manage to order your toys depending on their height?

You have a special task to do on google classroom today :)

We're going to get a bit technical on google classroom  today. Apologies in advance!!

You don't have to hand in every piece of work. I just thought we would try it out.

Today's tasks:

Literacy

Today we are going to look a little bit more at instructions. We are going to see WMG (What Makes a Good) set of instructions. I have added a PowerPoint for you. It gives you a few examples of instructions. Have a good look at them. Do they have anything in common?

Parents - steer them in the direction of looking at; title, what you need; numbered bullet points, imperative verbs (bossy words) and written in the correct order.

After you have had a good luck at them and tried to figure out what they have in common. I have created a WMG for you. Notice how they are in different colours? Remember when we did this for our information sheets about pirates? What I would then like you to do is on the next slide either print or take a picture and highlight the WMG using the correct colours.

Parents you can print it and they can colour it in or you can take a picture of it/ screenshot it and then edit it in pictures which allows you to highlight. Thank you Mrs Knowles for that tip! :)

Once you have highlighted the set of instructions, I would like you to 'hand in' your work. You do this by clicking on the PowerPoint 'view assignment'  then go to 'your work' then click 'add' then select and add the picture. If your child has printed off and coloured it then please take a picture of it.

Hopefully that works, don't worry if you are unable to hand it in.

Phonics

Please log onto Phonic bloom and choose some of the phase 4/5 games to play.

Maths

Log onto Espresso - Maths - Measure - activities - ordering lonest and shortest - complete this activity

I would then like you to measure how long you are using socks (use the same size socks)  and take a picture. You are then going to upload the picture to the google classroom stream including the title of how many socks long you are so we can all see each other :)

Then measure how long other members of your family are using socks - don't worry you don't have to upload those pictures!

Other activities

Over the next few days I am going to set you the task of finding out about the different parts of a plant and what they do. First of all I would like you to research the different parts of a plant and collect the information. I will put some links on for you to use. Then you can decide how you want to present your findings. You can create a poster, a mini book, make a video, Powerpoint, sentences. Be as creative as you like. I would like them handing in on Friday please. Parents - you know your children and their ability, it can be as brief or as detailed as they can make it.

Have a lovely day and hopefully I will be seeing some pictures of you in google classroom.

Speak to you tomorrow

Thank you to those of you who returned the questionnaire. I have responded to all those that were sent in by Saturday and will reply to anymore today. I hope you can find your replies. Please let me know if you can't. The questionnaires really help me to answer questions and queries, decide next steps in learning and provide support for you and your child.

Don't forget to check in on google classroom :)

Maths

This week we are going to be looking at length. Watch the video 'Measuring length: setting up camp' on Espresso. The link is below. Then complete the activity ordering tallest to shortest. I would then like you to get 10 of your toys and see if you can put them in order from the shortest to the tallest. If you have a ruler, measure them to see how tall they are and write the measurement above them on a piece of paper. Try and estimate first.

Why dont you try and do them throughout the week. Link to the videos is below.
